FamilyAtlas is on Google Play

The first public release of FamilyAtlas, a private family photo map for Android. What is in it, what it costs and what comes next.

FamilyAtlas is now available on Google Play. It is a private app where a family keeps its photos on a map, so every picture sits in the place where it was taken.

Thank you to everyone who tested the early builds and told us what was broken or confusing.

What FamilyAtlas does

You create a family and invite your relatives with a link or a QR code. Then anyone in the family can add a photo and drop a pin where it was taken. The map is the first screen you see: zoomed out, pins show how many photos are in a place; zoomed in, they turn into the photos themselves.

A trip or a birthday can be one event: many photos under a single pin, such as "Spain 2026". You can give an event a kind (trip, birthday, holiday, day off or gathering) and its pin gets its own colour and icon.

What is in this release

  • The family map with photo pins, plus satellite view and 3D.
  • Events that gather many photos under one pin.
  • Invites by link or QR code. An invite works for 7 days and several relatives can use it.
  • "Seen by": small avatars show who in the family has already opened a photo or an event.
  • Notifications about new photos, new places and new family members. Each kind can be turned off.
  • English and Russian, and a light and dark theme.

There are no ads, and the app has no third-party analytics or trackers.

What it costs

The free plan gives the whole family 2 GB of storage, with no limit on the number of people.

The Family plan gives 40 GB for $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year. The family owner pays, and everyone shares the space. Family also lets you download every photo as one ZIP, and emails from Family members are answered first.

If you cancel, nothing is deleted. The limit goes back to 2 GB, photos stay on the map and can still be opened and saved, and new uploads wait until there is room.

What is not there yet

We would rather say this plainly:

  • No iPhone version yet. FamilyAtlas is Android only for now.
  • Photos only. Videos are not supported yet.
  • No import tool. You add photos from your phone's gallery or camera.
  • Resized copies. The app saves photos at about 2048 pixels on the long side. They look sharp on a phone, but FamilyAtlas is not a replacement for a full-resolution backup.

How to start

  1. Install FamilyAtlas from Google Play.
  2. Create a family and send the invite link to your relatives.
  3. Add the first photo and put it on the map.

If something does not work, or you have an idea, write to support@family-atlas.uk. We answer ourselves, in English or Russian.
